Invisalign is a removable transparent teeth brace customized to fit your mouth. The engineering process takes a month before you are called back to your doctor’s office to fit them on. Before Invisalign became more popular, traditional braces was the most common teeth straightening treatment that was used. As the demand for less visible braces increased, Invisalign was created to not only straighten teeth but to also give you a less visible option of braces.
How Invisalign Straightens Teeth
Invisalign is made from smooth plastic aligners which are clear and are not visible to others. You can therefore go through treatment without others knowing that you have braces on. Invisalign treats various orthodontic conditions including overcrowded teeth, under bites, over bites and even cross bites.
During your first appointment, your orthodontist will examine you to confirm whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. If you are a good candidate, he will take photos, x-rays and impressions of your teeth. He will then use this information to create a treatment plan for you using Invisalign software. A 3D image of your teeth will be created and you will be able to see how your teeth will appear after every stage of treatment. You will also see how your teeth will look like once the treatment is over.
Your orthodontist will provide you with a set of aligners which you will wear for two weeks. You will then wear another set of aligners for another two weeks. This sequence will continue until your treatment is completed. Your orthodontist may require you to come in for an appointment every six weeks so that he can check the progress of the treatment. He can then make the necessary adjustments if need be.
Adjusting To Invisalign
When Invisalign aligners are new to the mouth, you will need a little adjusting to get used to them. The good news is that you can remove them, unlike the traditional braces. You can remove the aligners when you want to eat or to brush your teeth. You can also clean the aligners by brushing them gently and rinsing them in lukewarm water. You can therefore keep your mouth clean during the treatment period. You can maintain your diet when undergoing treatment unlike traditional braces which require you to change your diet to accommodate the braces.
Eating Habits While On Invisalign Treatment
The main focus of using Invisalign is to achieve cavity free, aligned teeth which eventually lead to a wonderful smile and a boost of confidence. You should wear the aligners for at least twenty two hours each day in order to achieve the desired results. You should carry your toothbrush along so that you can brush your teeth after every meal before wearing the aligners.
You may find that you constantly have to remove the aligners from your mouth, place them into the pack, eat, brush and then wash them whenever you eat something. You may therefore want to drop snacking in between meals and focus on eating the three main meals in a day. This can cause you to lose some weight in the process as you may not be at liberty to eat everything you come across.
